Chrysler History

Chrysler was founded by Walter Chrysler in 1925, with the first Chrysler automobile being well recieved by critics and the public alike. This model was a 6-cylinder automobile designed specifically to give customers a well engineered yet affordable car. From the beggining Chrysler were involved in cutting edge engineering innovations including designing a ridged road wheel that stops a deflated tyre from flying off the wheel.

During the 1960s Chrysler began to build all of their passenger cars with Unibody construction. The company started to expand into Europe during this decade with the release of the Hillman Avenger, rear-engined Imp and the Hunter. Chrysler also began to develop the muscle car market in the U.S through the production of models such as the Dodge Charger, Plymouth Road Runner and Plymouth GTX. The success of these models on the NASCAR circuit boosted Chryslers engineering reputation.

The company has also had worldwide success with its Jeep brand, which primarily makes off road and SUV vehicles. Jeeps have sold well in the commercial market aswell as being used by the US Army since the 1940s. In 1998 Daimler-Benz purchased Chrysler and formed DaimlerChrysler AG. During the 90's Chrysler released the PT Cruiser, a car that proved more popular than the company expected it to be. The car was released in 1999 as a 'retro' styled 5 door hatchback and then again in 2005 as a 2 door convertible. In 2009 Chrysler LLC announced they were forming a global alliance with Fiat.

Chrysler have just released SafetyTec, which is an intuitive safety and technology package available with their cars. The new safety package includes a blind spot monitoring system, rear cross path detection system, a parkview read back-up camera and rain sensitive wipers. Upcoming models for 2011 include a new Jeep, the 'Grand Cherokee' which will featre the new 3.6 litre V-6 engine and a new Dodge Charger which will come with a choice of a 3.6 Pentastar engine, a V-6 and a 6.4 litre Hemi engine.
